Founded in 2019EST 2019, This dream started with a downtown bar in need of an update and two peoples dream to provide something new, different and fun for the Monticello and Jones Co Community. With 100 years since the 1920's around the corner and Speakeasies popping up around the country as a hot new trend, and their own love for the time period and connections, they started the transformation of the Tap to a Speakeasy Live Music Bar, Naming it Glass Tap, which was the first bar name it was ever called in the 1950s. March 2020, The World Shut down, and so did the Tap, Needing some construction the plan was to finish the remodel before reopening the bar, and then a new opportunity presented itself in the condemned building next door that was about to be torn down. In 2021, the papers were signed and the construction process to save and restore the old Skellys Market building next door began. Everything was gutted, restabalized, new fronts on both buildings, a Patio built where the roof caved in, state of the art kitchen installed, and then blew through to open the Tap up to the Market. Reopened in March 2023, 3 years after the shut down as a full service restaurant and bar, renamed the Market at the Tap. The Market side was designed to look like the glamorous speakeasies of New York and Chicago, the Gatsby Era with the all the glitz, (Dont worry its just a theme, you don't have to dress up). The Tap Side designed to look more like the speakeasies in the small towns, featuring the prohibition side and gangsters. The Market Side: Originally Skellys Market, then became Cheaters and lastly Compadres, it then sat empty for 15 years rotting before the update. The Tap Side: Original the Princess Theatre and later the Princess Movie Theatre, the original front was an arch you would step under to purchase tickets at a box office, if you check out the entrance of the tap side you will still see the original stamped concrete from the outdoor box office area. In the 1950's a couple bought it, put a new front and new floor in and called it Glass Tap, first bar to have Tap Beer in town, it has been a bar since, The office, Sports Page, The Office again and lastly Glass Tap. We love our history, both of these buildings are unique and we have cherished watching them become this amazing new place where we can provide unique and delicious food and live music and events to Jones Co and all the wonderful tourists who stop in!
